Consumers desire for ‘authentic experiences’, the growth of adventure based tourism and the increasing importance of sustainability are the key market trends behind the creation of the North Coast 500 (NC500). The NC500 will showcase and promote the authentic experiences and activities of the Highlands to encourage visitors to stay longer and increase spend to contribute towards developing economic growth in the Highlands. The route will be marketed as a package whilst maintaining the unique characteristics of the area.
These experiences include food and drink, accommodation, culture, landscapes, heritage and outdoor and adventure based activities. The route itself is just over 500 miles and begins in the capital of the Highlands; Inverness, in a round trip across the stunning coastal edges upwards through the North West Highlands and down the east coast from Britain’s most northerly village; John O’Groats.
